The former member of the Sudanese Parliament, Abul-Qasim Muhammad Bartam, has returned to occupying a political position after the Sudanese army chief, Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, appointed him as a member of the new Transitional Sovereignty Council.
Abu al-Qasim al-Burtam is one of the most prominent advocates of rapid normalization with Israel.
Bartam was an independent member of the Sudanese parliament for four years under ousted President Omar al-Bashir, and left politics in 2019 after al-Bashir was overthrown.
Al-Burtam led the previous preparations for the formation of a delegation that included Sudanese personalities to visit Israel in an attempt to speed up the normalization process between the two countries.
The Hebrew newspaper “Times of Israel” quoted Abu al-Qasim Bartam earlier, that the delegation’s mission will focus on cultural and humanitarian relations between Sudan and Israel, and not on political or economic relations.
Bartam said the delegation was an attempt to “break the psychological barrier” between the two countries.
Since the signing of the normalization agreements between Israel, the UAE, Bahrain and Morocco, there has been speculation that Sudan will be the next country to normalize relations with Israel.
