The migrant crisis at Belarus’ border with Poland continues to escalate, with thousands of people wanting to enter the European Union still stranded in the cold outdoors.
And the official Belarusian agency “Belta” reported today, Saturday, that about 60 migrants are still present at the border strip, after they crossed the Belarus border yesterday evening at the “Prozzy” crossing and spent the night in front of the border fence established in Polish territory, near the “Kuznitsa” crossing.
According to the agency, the migrants, who often came from Iraq, chant: “Germany! Germany!”, and one of them said that the Polish border guards tried to expel them from the country by force.
RT lens documented the situation of these migrants in the Polish part of the border strip.
A spokesman for the Belarusian border guards told reporters that about two thousand migrants are still stuck in a random camp set up at the Belarus border with Poland, stressing that they all want to enter the European Union, and the situation in the camp is still complicated.
Meanwhile, the Belarusian President, Alexander Lukashenko, issued an order to the military to set up a camp dedicated to collecting aid for migrants, and in this place children will be fed and aid will be distributed to migrants.
This comes at a time when the migrants stationed at the borders are suffering more and more from the lack of food and water.
It is expected that about five tons of humanitarian aid from the “Red Cross” and Belarusian volunteers will arrive in the camp today, and the camp has been supplied with a high-powered electricity generator that will help alleviate the suffering of the migrants from the cold.
And the media published footage showing a state of chaos in the process of distributing food aid provided by the Belarusian government to migrants in the camp, as soldiers were forced to shoot in the air to avoid a stampede.
Meanwhile, the Polish border guards, in a statement issued today, accused the Belarusian authorities of paving the way for migrants to cross the border and infiltrate into Polish territory.
The statement stated that the Belarusian border guards began last night to remove the temporary fence at the Belarusian side of the border in the Cherymkha region, and used lasers and stroboscopes to blind the Polish military on the opposite side of the border.
The statement pointed out that about 100 migrants were waiting in the same place, giving them an opportunity to cross the border, accusing the Belarusian authorities of supplying them with tear gas, which they later used against Polish border guards.
The statement stated that the Polish border guards “thwarted this attempt and the subsequent attempts to breach the country’s borders.”
Today, the Polish Ministry of the Interior suggested the possibility of closing all border crossings with Belarus and suspending the movement of trains between the two countries due to the migrant crisis.
The Polish police also announced today that the body of a 20-year-old Syrian youth had been found in a forest on the border, and the circumstances of his death are still unknown.
Meanwhile, the media reported that the authorities of the German city of Munich expressed their readiness to act urgently to receive migrants stranded at the Belarus border and give them access to the necessary procedures to obtain shelter.
