Rawanji added: “In this regard, the UN Security Council must act on its responsibility and push the Israeli entity to end its occupation of the Syrian Golan and stop its attacks on Syria immediately, as the entity’s destabilizing measures are a flagrant violation of international laws and also threaten regional and international peace and security.”

Takht Ravanchi rejected separatist activities or illegal self-government initiatives in Syria and said, “We condemn any effort to support this matter.”

Speaking during a meeting of the UN Security Council on developments in the Middle East and the humanitarian situation in Syria, the Iranian diplomat welcomed the efforts of the UN envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, “for his efforts to hold the sixth round of talks related to the Syrian constitution in Geneva, especially the first direct meeting between Co-chairs of the committee.

He continued, “As in the last meeting of the members of the Astana process with Mr. Pedersen in Geneva, we will continue to encourage the co-chairs of the Committee for constructive engagement and cooperation based on a spirit of flexibility and reconciliation.”

Takht Ravanchi stressed: “We stress once again the need for the committee to continue its work without any external interference and pressure, and setting any artificial deadline for the committee’s activities to end, or any other conditions of this kind, negatively affects the committee’s work, so it is necessary to refrain from Therefore, it must be reassured that this is a Syrian-led political process related to Syria and facilitated by the United Nations.”

He explained, “In order to complete the work of the committee, serious efforts should be made in other areas as well, including ending the occupation of parts of Syria by foreign forces, and accordingly all foreign occupying forces that are present illegally, must leave without any preconditions or delay.”
