Beijing said on Wednesday that Taiwan “has no right” to participate in the United Nations, rejecting an invitation from US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in this regard.
The Chinese statement came in response to Blinken’s call on Tuesday for Taiwan’s “large participation” in the United Nations, which Beijing rejects and considers unacceptable, because it considers the island one of its provinces.
Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry responded to US President Joe Biden’s pledge to defend Taiwan, saying: “We will never give up our vital interests and there is no room for compromise.”
