The Central Bank of Egypt reported that the balance of gold in Egypt’s foreign reserves at the end of August 2021 amounted to $4.239 billion, equivalent to about 66.7 billion Egyptian pounds.
The Central Bank of Egypt recently announced that net foreign reserves rose to 40.672 billion dollars at the end of August 2021, compared to 40.609 billion dollars at the end of July 2021, an increase of about 63 million dollars.
Egypt imports goods and products from abroad worth $5 billion per month, with an annual total estimated at more than $55 billion. Therefore, the current average foreign exchange reserves cover about 8 months of merchandise imports into Egypt.
Foreign currencies in Egypt’s foreign reserves consist of a basket of major currencies, which are the US dollar, the single European currency the euro, the British pound, the Japanese yen, and the Chinese yuan.
