The medicine needed to treat cancer patients in Lebanon has run out, and every patient with the deadly disease has to secure a dose of treatment at his expense from outside Lebanon and in hard currency, in a country mired in endless financial, social and health crises.

Stakeholders assert that a number of cancer patients have recently failed to conduct the required treatment sessions, knowing that these sessions cannot be postponed for more than two days, so what is the fate of cancer patients in Lebanon?

A breast cancer patient, Fatima Hajj Hassan, narrates her arduous journey with the interruption of medicines in Lebanon, and she says to “Sputnik”: “I am a cancer patient and I am currently being treated with an injection, which is not available. “.

She added, “The price of the injection in Lebanon was 155,000 Lebanese pounds, and the medicine 30,000 pounds, and I had to order it from Iraq and paid 180 dollars so that I could complete my treatment.”

And Fatima continued: “I am willing to pay for it on the black market to get it, but this is not possible, there are patients who die.”

In turn, Hani Nassar, President of the Barbara Nassar Association for Cancer Patients Support, confirmed, “We have a major interruption in Lebanon for medicines and treatments for cancer patients, and the reason is a dispute between the Ministry of Health and the Banque du Liban. Cancer, if it is detected early and treated quickly, the patient will recover, but if the treatment is neglected or delayed on the patient, we will talk about the expansion of the disease and its transmission to other parts of the body and death.”

He stressed that “what is happening today in Lebanon is a massacre, we want cancer medicines, and what is happening today in hospitals is that half of the treatment floors designated for cancerous diseases are closed, and the absorption of patients has decreased because the treatments do not exist.”
