MANAMA — Authorities in Bahrain have closed seven restaurants in the country for one week for flouting the mandatory precautionary measures for combating the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported on Saturday.

According to the BNA report, the country's health ministry coordinated the closure of the outlets with the interior ministry and the ministry of industry, commerce and tourism.

The closed restaurants were found in breach of a ministerial decision on mandatory health protocols at restaurants and cafes to combat the pandemic and curb infections.

The Public Health Directorate (Food Control Section) at the health ministry, inspected 274 restaurants and cafés on the first and second days of Eid Al-Fitr, in coordination with the interior ministry and the ministry of industry, commerce and tourism, the report added.

Food control inspectors warned other outlets across the governorates of Bahrain after spotting a number of violations that were addressed immediately.
