KUWAIT CITY — The Kuwait government has advised citizens to avoid traveling abroad except for “absolute necessity” over fears of the highly-contagious new strains of coronavirus.

In a statement on Wednesday carried by the Kuwait News Agency, the country’s foreign ministry urged those compelled to travel for the absolute necessity to take health insurance that covers all ailments, including coronavirus, valid for the entire period of their stay.

The importance of full adherence to health guidelines in host countries and the need to follow updates or amendments to these measures was also stressed, bearing in mind that these measures may differ from country to country some of which may be introduced without prior notice, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, Kuwait recorded on Wednesday 756 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 167,410, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

The ministry announced one more virus-related death over the past 24 hours, taking the total number of fatalities in the country to 961.

Earlier in the day, the health ministry announced that a total of 557 more patients have recovered from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, pushing the total number of recoveries in the country to 159,543.
