Yesterday, Wednesday January 13, 2021, marked the 3,000th Sol or Martian Day (from a duration 24 h 40) from Curiosity on the Red Planet. Since his arrival on August 6, 2012 in the Gale crater (154 kilometers in diameter), the rover has already covered more than 21 kilometers, the majority of which on the slopes of Mount Sharp, which he began climbing in 2014.

To salute the 3,000 Martian days of its rover, still in great shape, the Nasa published a panorama consisting of some 122 images taken individually by the rover on the afternoon of November 18, 2020, during its 2,946th ground. The final work is breathtaking, giving us a view to the confines of the crater and the reliefs that border it to the north. On the far right, we recognize the robotic arm of Curiosity and, in the background, the summit of Mount Sharp (culminating at 5,500 meters) that it continues to climb.
The image has been processed so that the rocks appear to us as if we are looking at them under the light of the day on Earth.
Note that the arrival of his descendant, the powerful Perseverance, commissioned to seek traces of old or current life on Mars, is in a month, February 18. A great moment to follow on Futura.
