English tabloid polemics and quotes VAR when talking about death

The world was moved by the death of Argentine star Diego Armando Maradona yesterday. However, an English tabloid was criticized for stamping the famous “hand of God” bid at the 1986 World Cup and citing VAR.

“Maradona in the hands of God at 60; where was VAR when we needed it most?”, stamped o tabloide Daily Star.

The post was severely criticized on social media. Profiles in several languages ​​questioned the approach of the Daily Star, which still refers to the Argentine idol as the “second biggest player in history.

“A disgrace, can you imagine calling it journalism?” Asked a profile.

“Someone has to be fired after that,” said another profile.

Other profiles, however, understood that the questioning about the VAR, even with the photo of the goal in hand, was a kind of tribute asking that the appeal nullify Maradona’s death.

In the quarterfinals of the 1986 World Cup, Maradona used his hand on his head to score the first goal of the 2-1 victory over England. Led by him, the Argentine team then went on to the World Cup title, the only one he won with his country.

Maradona’s death on Wednesday shook the sporting world. The health of the Argentine star has been precarious since the beginning of the month, when he was operated on for a subdural hematoma and then, due to a family and medical decision, he remained hospitalized due to a “low mood, anemia and dehydration” and a condition of withdrawal due to to alcohol addiction.

Maradona was sick in the morning. According to the Argentine press, six ambulances were called to attend the former player, but doctors were unable to save him.

Before the health problems, the world champion for Argentina in 1986 worked as coach of the club Gimnasia y Esgrima, from La Plata.
