A small village in the Midlands was the first in the country to complete a Covid-19 test using the Health Passport Ireland app.

Over a period of six weeks, 150 people took part in the rapid test program in the village of Lecarrow in Co Roscommon.

The system was tested in the rural community to demonstrate how well the Health Passport Ireland system can help protect the health of residents and their families.

Participation in the program was voluntary, but all participants had to present themselves for weekly tests in a drive-through facility in the church in the village.

The results were then securely sent to attendees via the Health Passport app within 15 minutes. The results were then followed by a call from the doctor on site. According to ROQU, the group behind the Health Passport Ireland app, 1,000 tests were performed over the six weeks.

A total of seven positive cases were noted during this period.

One of those who attended the process was the local priest in Lecarrow, Father Ray Milton, who spoke highly of the program.

Father Milton said, “The tests were not very invasive and the rapid test result was fantastic. The results obtained in the Health Passport app were very reassuring. ”

“The process has given people a high level of trust and the feedback has been wonderful,” he added.

The Health Passport Ireland pilot, launched in August, will continue in select schools, nursing homes, hospitals, hotels and businesses across the country.

Robert Quirke, CEO of ROQU Group, said the Lecarrow trial trial is a “stress test” of how the Health Passport Ireland system works in the real world.

He said, “It has shown that combining rapid testing with technology is an efficient screening solution.

“The system has already identified many positive cases in asymptomatic people, not only in the village of Lecarrow, but also in the other trial partners that we examine weekly.

“Once a positive case is identified, people can isolate and seek medical help early on and prevent transmission,” he added
