USA 2020 elections: Kanye West receives more than 60,000 votes

While Donald Trump and Joe Biden continue to fight, vote by vote, in states that have become veritable battlefields to reach the presidency of the American Union, other candidates also add votes for their cause. Very few, in fact. Neither really aspires to occupy the Oval Office of the White House; the chances of the best placed were reduced, even before the contest, to 0.01%. Now, they are 0%. However, as the scrutiny continues, Every once in a while there is a vote that opts neither for Biden, nor for Trump, but for one of the other 34 candidates who are officially registered in at least one of the 50 states of the country. Among them is, of course, Kanye West.

Of the 142 million votes (approximately) that have been counted so far, 2.4 million chose one of the other 34 ‘sighs’ for the presidential seat. 61,217 of them, according to data from The Associated Press Y BallotPedia, chose to cast Kanye West and his running mate, Michelle Tidball. The rapper managed to register as an independent candidate on the ballots of 12 states (Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah and Vermont). It was in Tennessee where West enjoys his best figures: with 10,216 votes in his favor (0.3% of the regional total), the popular artist occupies, with 97% of ballots counted (also, according to AP and BP), the fourth place in the list of preferences in the state, behind Trump (60.7%), Biden (37.4%) and Jo Jorgensen (of the Libertarian Party, 1%).

On Election Day, West, whose presidential campaign failed after its launch on July 4, 2020, announced via Twitter that he would exercise his right to vote for the first time in his life. And that he would do it in favor of himself, of course. The 61,217 votes he has received are not enough to compute 0.1% of the total, but they are enough to place him as the fifth most voted candidate in the contest, below Biden, Trump, Jorgensen and Howie Hawkins (independent).

The other applicants

The list of candidates for the White House is quite long, actually. However, only the nominees of the majority parties (Democrat and Republican) have a real chance of forming a government. The rest are groups of the democratic process. By 2020, 36 candidates (including Trump and Biden) were officially registered in at least one state; the majority head strictly regional parties. The most notable supporting actors were Jo Jorgensen (1.1% nationally, more than 1.6 million votes) and Howie Hawkins (0.2%, 318,000 votes). The tandem that collected the fewest elections was Zachary Scalf and Matthew Lyda, with 29.
