Ahmed Hegazy, defender of the Egyptian national team and Ittihad Jeddah bid farewell to his former team and West Bromwich Albion fans, indicating that he will take on a new challenge with one of the biggest and most popular clubs in the Arab region and Asia.

“To our dear West Brom fans, I want to thank you for the support that you have provided me for the past three years, during all the victories and defeats,” Hegazy said on his official account on the social networking site “Twitter”.

And he continued, “You were wonderful with me and my family and I have always sought to repay this belief by giving everything I have on the stadium for this wonderful club, the fans and my teammates.”

“I would like to thank my team-mates, my coaches and all the staff at West Brom for welcoming me from day one. You were a family to me and I will miss you a lot. I wish you the best for the remainder of the season and for the future.”

“Now I am looking forward to a new challenge with Al Ittihad, which is one of the biggest and most popular clubs in the Arab region and Asia,” he said.

The Saudi club Al-Ittihad announced the signing of Ahmed Hegazy from West Bromwich Albion, England.

The Egyptian international defender’s career ended with the English team, who played in its ranks since 2017 on loan from Al-Ahly and then permanently since 2018.

And FilGoal.com had revealed earlier that Hegazy will move to West Brom for a season on loan, with the option to purchase a two-season contract.

West Brom has agreed to the Saudi offer, which amounts to nearly 4 million euros, especially with only two seasons remaining in the contract for the 29-year-old defender.

Although Hijazi’s desire was to continue with West Brom, especially after the team’s return to the Premiership, the meeting that he held with Slavin Bilic, the coach, accelerated the decision to leave.

Bilic told his Egyptian defender that he would not guarantee his participation mainly if he continued with the team, and therefore the best would be his departure to the Jeddah Federation.

Bilic Lahjazi also spoke positively about Al Ittihad, who previously trained and lived in Jeddah.

FilGoal.com was unique about the agreement between Al Ittihad and Hijazi, after the Saudi club sent the contracts on Friday to the Egyptian defender, awaiting his signature. (Read details)

On Monday, Hijazi participated in a goalless draw with Burnley, in his first appearance after returning to the Premier League.

Hijazi played a total of 104 matches for West Brom, scoring 4 goals and two assists.

Hegazy is not the first Egyptian to wear the Jeddah Union shirt, as he was preceded by Islam Al-Shater, Imad Mutaib, Hosni Abed Rabbo and Mahmoud Kahraba.

It is noteworthy that the summer transfer season in Saudi Arabia ends on October 25th.
