China is determined to “defeat invaders”, says Xi Jinping in a...

In a speech with a strong nationalist tone, the President of China, Xi Jinping, said on Friday that “blackmail, blockades and maximum pressure will lead nowhere” and that his country will never “give in, nor be subdued”. His words, spoken to mark the 70th anniversary of China’s entry into the Korean War, against American forces, were read as a veiled warning to the United States.

“China will never allow any force to violate or separate its sacred territory,” said Xi Jinping, referring to the arrival in North Korea of Chinese volunteers who fought in the conflict (1950-53), as a resistance to “northern aggression. -American”.

Not to mention the President of the United States, Donald , Xi denounced “extreme unilateralism, protectionism and selfishness”, as well as “arrogant, hegemonic and hostile attitudes, which lead nowhere”.

“You need to speak to the invaders in the language they know,” he said. “A war must be fought to stop invasion and violence. It must be faced with violence. It is necessary to win in order to gain peace and respect ”, he stressed.

Xi Jinping advocated a “faster advance” in the modernization of the Armed Forces of China, and the “union in the formidable force that unites all Chinese” so that they “deal with problems with their heads held high”.

“China will never waver in the face of threats or be subdued. We, the Chinese, are firm and confident and look to the future with the expectation of the nation’s rejuvenation ”, he guaranteed.

The statements come a day after the announcement of a possible arms sale from the United States to Taiwan, an island that Beijing considers a rebel province, having already made it known that it will not renounce the use of force to achieve “reunification” with the rest of the Republic People’s Republic of China.

The US State Department announced its intention to sell three batches of weapons to the island, including SLAM-ER missiles and HIMARS units, a multiple-missile launch system that, according to the newspaper South China Morning Post, will give Taiwan weapons that can reach mainland China.

The deal is valued at $ 1.8 billion (€ 1.5 billion).

China and Taiwan separated in 1949, when the nationalists took refuge on the island, after losing the Civil War to the communists, who have governed the People’s Republic of China ever since.

The Chinese President recalled that 70 years ago, Chinese troops and North Koreans defeated rivals and “destroyed the myth of the invincibility of the United States Army”.

“We destroyed the attackers’ plan. After the victory, the Chinese were finally able to remove the label of being ‘the sick of East Asia’ ”, he pointed out.

“We showed the world the courage of our armed forces to fight and win,” he added, also indicating that about 197,000 Chinese died on the battlefield.

The Chinese President assured that China’s participation in the Korean War showed its commitment to safeguarding world peace and called on the Chinese to “promote the spirit of that war”.

At the same time, he argued that Beijing “does not seek expansion” and “is prepared to work with the world”. “Peaceful development and mutually beneficial cooperation remain the right path,” he said.

The relationship between China and the United States has deteriorated over the past two years, with simultaneous disputes between the two largest economies in the world. In Beijing and Washington, references to a “new Cold War” are now common.

Renewed tensions over Taiwan or the South China Sea sovereignty were added to the commercial and technological war or to the diplomatic and ideological struggle.
