A jet stream from the Atlantic this weekend, when it arrives on Friday evening, will bring dire weather to much of the country.

Met Eireann predicts some terrible days, especially for counties in the south and west of Ireland.

The weather front will bring storm winds and heavy rain in many places throughout the weekend.

And that’s before the remnant of Hurricane Epsilon next week.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: “The final overnight rain will fall in the Irish Sea early Friday – some more severe eruptions for a time in the east and southeast.

The Jetstream is heading to Ireland this weekend

“Getting mostly dry in many areas with sunny spells and well-dispersed showers, although some heavy showers are possible in the northwest.

“The highest temperatures are between 9 and 13 degrees Celsius, with mostly moderate west to south-west breezes. Later in the evening the rain will move west and the south wind will be stronger.

“Tonight it will be very wet and very windy, especially in the southern and western counties. Some localized flooding is possible with strong winds generated by strong to stormy winds from south to south-west. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees Celsius.

“Overnight, wind and rain will clear to the east on Saturday morning. As the autumn sunshine breaks through, isolated, stormy showers will also develop.

“Later in the evening, the showers in the coastal areas of the Atlantic will increase and merge here into longer periods of rain. Some thunderstorms pose a risk of hail. Similar temperatures as in the last few days; highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees Celsius. South to south southwest winds are mostly fresh to strong and remain windiest on the west coasts. ”

There are currently three separate amber weather warnings for eight counties across Ireland.

A status yellow rain warning has been issued for Galway and Mayo, which is valid from Friday at 9 p.m. to Saturday at 9 a.m.

A status yellow wind warning has been issued for Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Clare and Kerry and is valid from 10pm Friday to 7am Saturday.

A yellow wind warning was issued for Cork, Waterford and Wexford on Saturday from midnight to 11 a.m.
