Mr Trump tweeted that he wanted to pre-broadcast the interview on his “60 Minutes” show on Sunday to expose the “bias, hatred and rudeness” of journalist Leslie Stahl.
The raw material posted on Mr Trump’s Facebook page appears to go against the White House’s agreement with the network and show the encounter from start to finish, with the president being consistently frustrated in the tone of the questioning.
Stahl does not raise her voice and only interrupts Mr. Trump to firmly question his statements on how to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, his encouragement of supporters to sing for locking up political opponents and other sensitive topics.
Mr Trump questions an ambush interview and announces that he is canceling the part where Stahl should have continued the discussion, while also joining Vice President Mike Pence.
“Your first statement was ‘these are going to be tough questions.’ Well, I don’t mind, but when you prepared the interview, you didn’t say that. They said, “Oh, let’s have a nice interview,” he complains to Stahl, just before abruptly demanding an end to the interview.
Mr. Trump also repeatedly complains that CBS and other media outlets didn’t ask equally difficult questions of his Democratic opponent Joe Biden, but instead gave him “softball after softball.”
“I’ve seen all of his interviews. He was never asked a tough question, “said Trump.
CBS criticized the White House for violating the agreement with the network by releasing the footage.
“The White House’s unprecedented decision to disregard its agreement with CBS News and publish its footage will not stop ’60 Minutes’ from delivering full, fair, and contextual coverage that Presidents have participated in for decades,” said CBS in a statement.
The network noted that the White House recorded the interview separately, but agreed to use it for archival purposes only.
CBS also interviewed Mr. Biden for a separate “60 minute” segment to air on Sunday.
Mr Trump’s breakdown over the interview taped at the White House on Tuesday came hours before his debate with Biden on Thursday evening – their last head-to-head clash in less than two weeks before the elections.
On Twitter, he promised his followers that the footage of him with Stahl “showed their constant interruptions and anger. Compare my complete, fluent and “great brilliant” answers with their “Qs”. ”
