French police announced, on Friday, that they had shot dead a man who had slaughtered a teacher minutes earlier in a preparatory school in a street in a suburb of Paris.
A police source told Agence France-Presse, that this teacher had shown his students cartoons offensive to the Prophet Muhammad.
The French counter-terrorism prosecutor said he was investigating the attack in the northwestern Paris suburb of Conflans Saint-Honorine.
A police patrol spotted the suspect attacker carrying a knife a short distance from the site of the attack. A police spokesman said the police shot the suspect and killed him.
Another police source said that the dead man was beheaded in the attack, but this was not confirmed.
The French judiciary deals with the attack as a “terrorist accident”, which coincides with the trial of alleged accomplices with the attackers of the “Charlie Hebdo” newspaper in 2015, and it comes a few weeks after an attack by a man that injured two people he thought were working for the newspaper.
The place was cordoned off, and members of the demining department were brought in on suspicion of an explosive belt.
And Interior Minister Gerald Darmanan, who is in Morocco, decided to return immediately to Paris.
Late last month, a migrant from Pakistan injured two people after attacking them with a machete outside the former headquarters of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
