Lebanese Olympic runner Sherine Njeim was the first to participate in the “virtual” race organized by the Beirut Marathon Association for the first time, for a distance of 5 km locally and abroad, under the slogan: “Beirut embraces”, which was held during the period from October 1 to the fifteenth of it, in which runners participated And hostilities in 103 Arab and foreign cities from 25 countries around the world, most notably: New York – London – Paris – San Paolo – Dubrovnik – – Kuwait – Manama in support of the Lebanese Red Cross Society, in appreciation of its relief efforts and contributions to the Lebanese people after the tragedy of the Beirut Port bombing.

The idea of ​​this race came after intensive meetings held by the association headed by Mrs. May El-Khalil with a number of volunteer work teams despite the suspension of the association’s work and the mounting challenges it faced on a different level. One of its results was the freezing of the association’s activities, foremost of which is the annual marathon race for the years 2019 and 2020.

Mrs. Al-Khalil accompanied the conduct of a series of contacts with international bodies and national committees to organize the marathon in the world to participate in the race, where the idea met with response and support from these bodies, led by the International Athletics Federation represented by the person of its president, Lord Sebastian Co, in addition to sports figures such as Paula Radcliffe, Edwin Moses, Romero Britto and Gloria And Emilio Stephen and Thomas Abraham, who had a role in promoting the race and interacting on social networking sites globally, Mrs. Al-Khalil extended the highest words of gratitude, appreciation and gratitude to all these personalities and others and to partners from international, Arab and Lebanese sports institutions and bodies for the finest relations of cooperation and moral support.

Registration in the race was done in cooperation with the (Ha-Ku) Foundation in the state of Florida, USA, which operates as a platform through its website, where it provided registration services for foreign runners who participated in the race and collected the registration fee for each participant and participation in the race and was set at $ 30, where all revenues will be from These fees or any other donations directly and only for the account of the Lebanese Red Cross, bearing in mind that participation inside Lebanon was free of charge.
