Inauguration of Alstom’s new site in Fez

Alstom’s new site in Fez was inaugurated on Wednesday, during a ceremony chaired by the Minister of Industry, Trade and the Green and Digital Economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy.

Extending over an area of ​​3.4 ha, this project, with a total cost of DH 48 million, is intended for the manufacture and assembly of cables and electrical cabinets.

This industrial project currently employs some 400 people and aims to create 350 other direct jobs by 2023, according to Alstom.

Accompanied by the wali of the Fès-Meknes region, governor of the prefecture of Fez, Said Zniber, the president of the Fès-Meknes region, Mohand Laenser, and the president of the Municipality of Fez, Idriss Al Azami Idrissi, the minister s’ went to the various workshops of the Alstom company.

“This investment is helping to breathe new life into the ex-COTEF industrial zone, which will be a catalyst for the revival of regional economic activity,” said Mr. Elalamy on this occasion.

Thanks to the increase in Alstom’s production capacity, new jobs will be created, thus offering local skills the opportunity to assert themselves and contribute to the development of the region, he added, noting that this new investment bodes well for the Alstom group in Morocco.

The president of Alstom Transport Maroc, Nourddine Rhalmi, stressed, for his part, that the new site in Fez is “proof of Alstom’s industrial expansion in Morocco”, specifying that its “contemporary design, projected into the future, will allow the city to become part of a new positive memory, for a future that we already know is promising. ”

“It perfectly illustrates our strategy of designing and developing a localized ecosystem, while having a highly beneficial action for the industry as well as for the community,” he said.

He assured that the company will continue to develop a ” strong network of local suppliers, and improve knowledge of key subsystems, while helping our local talents to sharpen their skills ”.

According to the company, the Alstom site in Fez has contributed, to date, to more than 20 railway projects around the world and will increase the production capacity of electrical cabinets and harnesses for railway applications and electrical wiring which are installed on Alstom rolling stock.

In the future, Alstom is also committed to ” increasing the local talent pool and engaging more as well as supporting the socio-economic development of the region ”.

Alstom has been present in Morocco for a century. With more than 500 employees, Alstom has carried out numerous projects, including the delivery of Citadis trams to the cities of Rabat and Casablanca, 12 Avelia Euroduplex trains for the high-speed line, which will link Tangier to Casablanca, and 50 Prima locomotives, bringing the most suitable solutions for freight, passenger and mixed transport services.
