MIAMI, De 19 ― Police are investigating a suspected intruder at US President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, local media reported yesterday, just months after the club was illegally entered by a Chinese national.

“There's an ongoing investigation right now and we're working on it,” Palm Beach police spokesman Michael Ogrodnick said in a statement reported by various US news outlets.

The department did not give further details or respond to AFP's request for confirmation. But the Palm Beach Post reported that officers were questioning a woman over reports of trespassing, citing town manager Kirk Blouin.

A fundraising gala was being hosted at Mar-a-Lago last night, the Post added, with Trump at a campaign rally in Michigan.

Trump tweeted last week that he planned to spend two weeks at Mar-a-Lago, which he calls his “Winter White House”, for the holidays. He is expected to arrive tomorrow.

The president also recently announced a switch of residence from his native New York to the resort.

The club was criticised for an apparent lack of security in April when Zhang Yujing, 33, was arrested after attempting to enter while carrying multiple mobile phones and a thumb drive containing malware.

She was jailed for eight months in November for illegal entry and lying to the Secret Service. ― AFP
