Kim Seon-ho infects “start-up” viewers with the deadly “second lead syndrome”

If only he would write his own name. If only he admitted that he wrote these letters. If only.

These are just some of the ifs viewers who will report on the first six episodes of the ongoing K-drama “Start-Up”. Kim Seon-ho plays Han Ji-pyeong on the show. As the second main character, it has already been written that he will not end with the girl. But it doesn’t stop us from falling in love with him.

“My character is the epitome of a young and successful person. He has a nice watch and a nice hairstyle, ”Kim said during the show’s press conference last month. “He’s really a softie inside, even though he has a sharp tongue.”

Ji-Pyeong is not just a softie. He’s a “good boy,” compliments to puppies and good-hearted boys who act tough.

For those who haven’t seen the show, here is a brief background. Ji-pyeong is Suzy Bae’s character Dal-mi’s first love. She doesn’t know because they only met through the letters exchanged in the aviary. The reluctant Ji-pyeong did it as a favor for his grandmother. He used the name of the math genius he saw in the Nam Do-san newspaper.

Fast forward when they are all adults. Ji-pyeong is a successful businessman, Do-san (Nam Joo-hyuk) is still a brilliant, if unsuccessful, computer programmer, and Dal-mi wants to start her own company. They all move together to Sandbox, a fictional and utopian place where startups receive grants to protect themselves from failure.

Dal-mi still believes that Do-san is her first love. Do-san continues to fish them because he wants “the misunderstanding to become a reality”. It leaves Ji-pyeong out in the cold.

Kim Seon-ho fever

This isn’t the first time Kim has played a friendly second main character. He fell in love with the Crown Prince’s wife in “100 Days My Prince”. Even in that drama, Kim’s character was quite a snag, so this isn’t the first time we’ve seen him play a character that we can imagine himself playing the female lead.

But “Start-Up” made viewers fall in love with Ji-pyeong from the start. We saw his fights, knew about his goals and dreams, and chose him very early on in the series. Like Dal-mi, he is our first love. Unfortunately, like many other main characters before him, he suffers from the mistake of not having the courage to admit his feelings.

Kim made Ji-pyeong the charming prince in this drama. The mainstay “2 days and 1 night” has become a household name on this show. There’s a good chance it won’t end with Dal-mi. But we know Kim is ready to star in his next drama.
