The Dar al-Iftaa clarified the invalidities of fasting, as follows:

Whoever deliberately ate or drank during the day in Ramadan broke his fast according to the consensus of scholars, and he has to make up a day only in some sects, which is the fatwa, and spend a day with penance in some sects, and expiation is to fast sixty consecutive days or feed sixty poor people if he is unable to fast, and all are agreed that Whoever eats or drinks intentionally during the day in Ramadan is guilty of violating the sanctity of fasting.

As for the one who ate or drank out of forgetfulness, his fast is invalidated according to the doctrine of Imam Malik, and he must abstain for the rest of his day and he only has to make up for it.

Among the nullifiers of fasting: deliberate intercourse during the day in Ramadan, and whoever does that has to make up for it and expiate in all sects, but is expiation for the husband and wife together? Some sects see this, and some view penance on the husband, while the wife has to make up for it only, even if the two are partners in sin and disobedience.

Among the invalidators of fasting: Deliberate vomiting, and everything that reaches the stomach from liquids or solids, it invalidates the fast, even if the Hanafis and Malikis stipulate that solid materials should be settled in the stomach. And if kohl is applied during the day and its trace or taste is found in the throat, the fast is invalidated by some imams, and according to Abu Hanifa and al-Shafi’i, may God be pleased with them both, that kohl does not break the fast even if it is applied during the day in Ramadan, and their doctrine is based on what was narrated from the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, that he used kohl in Ramadan, which is most likely to us.

Among the invalidators of fasting: menstruation and postpartum.
