New CDC study shows the majority of people infected with COVID-19...

Once again, there seems to be conflicting facts, data, and many opinions about the effectiveness of wearing masks to prevent infection with the coronavirus.

In addition to causing “maskne” and skin infections on the face and around the mouth, persistent coughs, “mask mouth” and respiratory diseases including lung infections, it was found that most people infected with COVID-19 “always” wore masks. According to a newly published study by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

The study found that 74.2% said they “always” wear masks, while 14.5% “often” wore poorer masks.

It is difficult not to conclude that wearing non-surgical cloth masks or face coverings does little to prevent infection with the coronavirus.

California Globe reported in April on Governor Gavin Newsom’s unilateral decision, which he announced on MSNBC, to spend $ 1 billion on surgical face masks, and said the contract had already been “inked”. Newsom has signed a $ 1 billion deal with Chinese electric car maker BYD for 150 million N95 masks and surgical masks per month, despite the conflicting science about the use of face masks to prevent coronavirus. The real reason for the contract is still unknown.

However, the CDC study also states, “CDC and other health authorities are recommending community containment strategies to reduce transmission of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 (1,2).” And the CDC continues to recommend masks that read, “Cloth face covers prevent people with COVID-19 from spreading the virus to others,” a July statement said.

From the CDC study:

Participants were asked about wearing a mask and possible activities in the community (e.g. gatherings with ≤ 10 or> 10 people in a house, shopping, eating in a restaurant, visiting an office setting, a salon, a fitness room, a Bar / café or church / religious gathering or use of public transport) on a five-point Likert scale from “never” to “more than once a day” or “always”.

For each activity reported, participants were asked to quantify the level of compliance with recommendations such as wearing a face mask of any kind or social distancing between other people in that location. The possible answers range from “none” to “almost all”.

In the 14 days leading up to the onset of the disease, 71% of the case patients and 74% of the controls said they always use cloth face covers or other types of masks in public. Close contact with one or more people with known COVID-19 was observed by 42% of patients compared to 14% of controls (p

Interestingly, the CDC found:

Adults with confirmed COVID-19 (case patients) had roughly twice as likely as controls reported having had dinner in a restaurant in the 14 days before their illness. In addition to eating in a restaurant, case patients were more likely to report going to a bar / cafe, but only if the analysis was limited to participants who did not have close contact with anyone with known COVID-19 prior to the onset of the disease. Reports of exposure in restaurants have been linked to air circulation (7). The direction, ventilation, and intensity of airflow can affect virus transmission even when social distancing measures and the use of masks are carried out according to current guidelines. Masks cannot be effectively worn while eating and drinking, while shopping and numerous other indoor activities do not preclude the use of masks. (Notably, when assessing food in a restaurant, the question did not distinguish between indoor and outdoor options. Furthermore, when visiting a bar or coffee shop, the question did not differentiate between venues or methods of providing services that might present different exposures .)

3.9% of the respondents stated that they had never worn face masks. another 3.9% said they rarely do this.

Of the patients and controls, 61.2% reported at least one of the following chronic underlying diseases: heart disease, high blood pressure, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, immunodeficiency, psychiatric disease, diabetes or obesity.
