The European Central Bank is celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the single currency (the euro) with light shows at its headquarters in Frankfurt.
According to the European Central Bank, the facade of the bank was illuminated from midnight on January 1st.
“Inspired by the preface to the Ode to Joy, the lighting will display a symphony of light composed of blue and yellow ribbons, stripes and circles, the colors of the European Union,” the bank said in a statement.
“Then, until January 9, we will light the building to display different messages about the euro in the 15 languages of the eurozone countries,” the statement continued.
The single European currency (the euro) is currently the official currency of 340 million people in 19 European countries.
