Date: November 13, 2020 The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, ADNOC, signed an agreement with the French company, Total, to explore opportunities for cooperation in research and development and partnership in the areas of reducing carbon dioxide emissions, carbon capture, use and storage technology, and enhancing ADNOC’s leadership in this field. Industry and advanced technology, CEO of ADNOC and its group of companies, and Patrick Pouyanné, chairman and CEO of Total, France.

The agreement brings together two of the world’s largest energy producers to benefit from the expertise and latest technologies available to them in the field of reducing carbon dioxide emissions. The agreement also contributes to strengthening and expanding the historic partnership and cooperation between the two parties in various fields and stages of business in the oil and gas sector.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber said: “In line with the wise leadership approach to extending bridges of cooperation and building strategic partnerships that contribute to achieving the maximum possible value, we signed this agreement to strengthen our partnership and alliance with Total in the field of reducing carbon emissions.

This agreement constitutes an additional step towards ADNOC’s sustainability goals, which aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030, and reinforces our commitment to responsible production of oil and gas as part of ADNOC’s 2030 integrated strategy for smart growth. We look forward to leveraging our collaboration with Total to conduct more research and development projects on technologies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and opportunities for sustainable growth.

According to the agreement, ADNOC and Total are exploring opportunities for cooperation in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, improving energy efficiency and using renewable energy in oil and gas operations. The two companies will also develop joint research into new technologies covering carbon capture and storage solutions for oil recovery projects.

Patrick Pouyanné said: “This initiative will allow the two companies to join efforts in several areas such as reducing carbon emissions in industrial sites, improving energy efficiency in operations, and developing innovative solutions in the field of carbon capture, use and storage technology.
