The new distribution center will, the company said, “play an important role in improving and accelerating Danone’s European distribution.”

Nutricia, part of Danone, has a brand new milk powder factory for baby food right on the A73 since the beginning of last year. Minister Carola Schouten officially opened the new factory, in which 240 million euros has been invested, in March 2019. 600 different products are made on the highway in Haps. These are good for feeding some 3.5 million babies in the world every day.

Before that, Nutricia was located in the center of Cuijk, near the Maas. Expansion there was not possible. Moreover, the factory was considerably outdated.

The new distribution center will be built on a piece of land roughly the same size as the site on which the new factory stands. “The market continues to grow and if Danone wants to expand, they will do so here in Haps,” said Nutricia director Sijmon Hage during the official opening last year.

From the new distribution center, Danone will soon serve pharmacies, hospitals and retailers in surrounding countries. Products from here go to more than eighty countries worldwide.

The Nutricia company originated in 1896, when Martinus van der Hagen started a dairy factory in Zoetermeer. Because there was a need for bacteria-free infant nutrition. Then one in five babies in the Netherlands died from a lack of breast milk. In 1901 the factory was renamed Nutricia. The ‘Cuyksche’ milk factory, founded in 1916, was taken over by Nutricia after the Second World War and by Danone in 2007.

The Cuijk alderman Maarten Jilisen and the management of Regional Business Park Laarakker (RBL) say they are ‘very happy’ with the expansion of Danone. According to the municipality and RBL, Danone’s ambition ties in perfectly with the business park. ‘Both are fully committed to sustainability and employment for the region.’
