Music had been heard and disco lights seen. So last week, two police officers came to a report that – in the middle of the second corona outbreak – there was a noisy party on a boat at yacht builder Oceanco in Alblasserdam.
Once on board, the officers ran into 15 drunken people who did not accept the abrupt end of their boat party. They pelted the officers with chairs and glasses. Both officers were slightly injured and had to defend themselves with their baton and an electric shock weapon. Four men and a woman were arrested.
As it turns out, the party has unpleasant consequences for as many as ten agents from the Drechtsteden base team. One of the partygoers on the boat was found positive after a corona test, the police confirms to this newspaper. “The illegal party on Friday 23 October on a ship near Oceanco was already one with a nasty aftertaste, but it will get an even more annoying aftermath,” said a police officer.
On the advice of the GGD, ten officers from the Drechtsteden police team are in quarantine at home. “That is hard work, both personally for the officers who are now at home, and for the capacity of the police.”
Dennis den Os, district chief South Holland-South at the police, is angry: “Police officers are stepping forward to protect society and to implement measures. The behavior of those present on the ship did not fit in in any way. Outrageous what took place there. Although the impact on the team is great, the base team can handle the temporary outage of the agents. That is not self-evident and it does take effort. ”

We sympathize with the agents and their families
Peter Verheij, Deputy Mayor Alblasserdam
“This should never have happened,” says Deputy Mayor of Alblasserdam Peter Verheij. “We sympathize with the agents who are now in quarantine against will and thanks and wish them and their families a lot of strength now that exciting days are coming for them. In the Netherlands, we do everything we can to combat the corona virus. This requires responsible behavior and observing and complying with (hygiene) regulations. Parties don’t fit in that. ”
The partygoers are not employees of Oceanco, but are involved in a project of the yacht builder. Oceanco previously reported regretting the incident and cooperating with the police investigation.
