RUURLO –
Around 11.45 it will just happen, Bert and Alain will then enter Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s Tower. But not empty-handed: “He is going to unwrap 40 presents”, said Alain Schepers this morning on Radio Gelderland.

Entrepreneur Bert van Zijtveld and friend Alain Schepers from Ruurlo left last week from the Achterhoekse place for a walk of more than 200 kilometers, on the way to the courtyard. Along the way, they spoke with people from the hospitality industry to come up with recommendations for the prime minister, in order to open up the hospitality industry. They tried to speak to as many people as possible to come up with creative ideas for the hospitality industry.

“Sitting still was not an option for us. In addition, we did not want to hold a protest march, we wanted to initiate a journey positively. With this tour we therefore wanted to demand positive attention and offer and collect inspiration from colleagues in the hospitality industry,” says Schepers.

‘Exciting until the last moment’

The purpose of the trip was to then hand over all these ideas to the Prime Minister. But it was uncertain whether Mark Rutte had time for the Achterhoekers. “It was very exciting until the last moment, but we have an appointment with him at 11.45 am. Then he can unwrap 40 presents. So we step into the Tower, isn’t it cool?”

The two did not expect this. “Of course you hope so, but when you see how many people got involved along the way and how much sympathy we have received on the way and how many reactions we received on our page, Mark Rutte could hardly do otherwise”, Schepers concludes.
