“Wizz Air”, one of the local airlines, today, Saturday, officially obtained the Air Operator Certificate from the General Authority of Civil Aviation in the UAE.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation said that the receipt by Wizz Air, Abu Dhabi Economic Aviation, of the Air Operator Certificate “completes the last step in the regulatory processes to start the flight line.”
The authority stated that these certificates “represent confirmation from the General Civil Aviation Authority, that Wizz Air Abu Dhabi Economic Aviation Company complies with all applicable requirements and is fully capable of fulfilling its responsibilities and conducting safe and effective operations.”
She indicated that the operations of the air operator certificate were completed, over a period of eight months, during an unprecedented crisis in the aviation industry, due to the Corona pandemic, travel restrictions and country closures.
She pointed out that representatives of the General Civil Aviation Authority and Wizz Air Abu Dhabi Economic Aviation Company were able to fulfill the necessary requirements to obtain the Air Operator Certificate.
She explained that “Wizz Air” demonstrated its operational capabilities for the General Civil Aviation Authority, during special demonstration flights, which were conducted on board the latest aircraft currently available in the market, which is the Airbus A321 Neo.
Last June, the Cabinet approved the “Wizz Air Abu Dhabi” company as a national carrier for the country, provided that it fulfills all the legal, administrative and technical conditions and requirements, to join a number of companies such as “Etihad Airways”, “Emirates Airlines” and “Air Arabia”.
The company started operating flights between Abu Dhabi and each of Bucharest and Budapest starting last June, while flights between Abu Dhabi and Cluj Napoca, Katowice and Sofia will start from September 2020, in the event that flights are resumed in those countries.
This follows the agreement concluded last March between “Wizz Air” and the Holding Company (ADQ) regarding the establishment of “Wizz Air Abu Dhabi” for low-cost aviation, as a joint domestic airline, and its first airline outside Europe.
Wizz Air will operate flights to destinations in which it is present and witnessing growth in its operations, which include Central, Eastern and Western Europe, as well as the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East and Africa region in the long term.
The Corona pandemic has severely affected air travel, forcing airlines to lay off workers, shrinking their fleets, and requesting financial bailouts from governments to withstand, while there are those who see that it will be a smaller market for years.
The cash-rich company has one of the strongest budgets in Europe, and says lower prices will help it win market share when demand for travel recovers; This gives it confidence in the commitment of its long-term expansion plans,
